PORTSMOUTH -- A Portsmouth-based Coast Guard cutter made a huge drug bust while on patrol in the Caribbean.
The crew of USCGC Harriet Lane seized nearly 6,000 pounds of cocaine on December 3. It has a street value of more than $83 million.
A Customs and Border Protection aircraft spotted the freighter Olympiakos and the cutter intercepted it.
The drugs and 11 people on the freighter were turned over to U.S. authorities and the Harriet Lane returned to patrol duty.
